Avoiding Business Scams

So you want to be a successful business person managing a growing home based business. But what if your business dream got shattered by a cruel business opportunist who offered you a wonderful opportunity, which later turned out to be just another scam. Sounds terrible, isn’t it? But that’s exactly what happens to millions of American moms who have the burning passion of becoming a stay at home business woman. More than any other business opportunity, home based businesses seem to attract these crooks because of higher success rate of defrauding. This is particularly due to the fact that these programs mainly attract women and it’s easier for them to take advantage of women’s trusting nature.

As a result if you are a bizymom who is looking to start up your own home business, it is utmost important that you know how to identify a legitimate opportunity and thus avoid scams. Don’t worry it’s certainly not difficult and the rest of this article enlightens you on some aspects to consider.

Never count on an opportunity which is too good to be true

A person who has browsed on the Internet for at least one or two days would have come across these pop-up screens which claim that you have just won a lottery and the prize is worth $1 million. But if you cared to click the click-here button you would have realized, it’s just another scam. Many home business opportunities available on the Internet offer you similar rewards, however in different ways. Of course you are not awarded $1 million at once but if you do a small calculation of the rewards, you may realize it doesn’t take that long for you to become a millionaire. In essence if you come across an opportunity of which the reward sounds too good to be true, most probably it is. Just think about it, why would they want make you a millionaire? So the next time the come to you, be vigilant.

Assess its legality

Many home business scams tend to request you to pay significant sums of money even to disclose the business details. A legitimate business opportunity will never do so since it wants you to be as more informed as possible before you take up the opportunity so that you can make a better decision.

You can also conduct some small tests like, where did they get your contact details?, do they have a business address and if so is it real?, can you get them on the phone?, do they respond your emails? Or else you can easily type “name of the business opportunity scam” on any reputed search engine and if it’s connected to scandals, most probably you will find out that by going through the search results.

If you are still not convinced, you can verify its legality by browsing the websites of reputed institutions which combat against these scams such as BBB (Better Business Bureau), Fraud.org, Federal Citizen Information Center.
