Do you want a faucet mounted system or an inline system?
A faucet-mounted system is relatively inexpensive and easy to install. However, it will require frequent filter changes. The inline system mounts directly to the plumbing. This is a more expensive option but requires less filter changing.
If your water test indicates that you have such contaminants as lead, nitrates, sodium or fluoride then an in-line reverse osmosis filtering system. This type of system will produce a lot of wasted water, so keep an eye on your water bill. If you notice that your calcium count is high in your water, adding a water softener would be a good idea as well.
Adding a cutoff meter for your water filtration system will let you know when it is time to change the filter.

The types of filter you choose depends on the types of contaminants are found in your water. Some filters are specifically designed to remove lead. Other water filters remove chlorine. However, to remove microorganisms you will require a special filter for that.
