Don t Use Objectives

Don’t Use Objectives

The old way of writing a resume was to include a generic objective at the very top. You know the kind that made you look really good but sounded a bit funny when read out loud.

“I desire use the skills I have developed in customer service to work for a fast growing company in the computer technology field.”

If you ever wondered if people read them, yes they read some of them; and yes, they laughed at most of them.

The new style of resume writing doesn’t have a place for broad objectives. Employers know you are looking for a job. Instead, use something that captures who you are and what you do. Instead of an objective, use a profile. Insert something that will get you noticed instead of glanced over.

The goal of any good resume is to get you an interview and nothing else. Do not make the mistake of trying to use it to get you the job. A profile of who you are speaks volumes to the person reading it and could possibly make the difference of you

getting the job you have always wanted.

A profile can contain things about you that relate to the job you are applying for. If the job you are applying for is in HR, state your interests in customer service and how working with people is your passion. That sounds much more interesting to the person scheduling interviews than the dry, made-up part of wanting to use your skills and abilities in a changing work environment to improve the lives of others.

Make yourself come alive in your profile and get noticed. It may just land you an interview for the job you have always dreamed of.
